Earl Clark was one of the biggest surprises of last season…well, not if you follow BlogNBAsketball. I always knew that he was more than just a throw-in in that Howard. He played very well for the Lakers, especially when starting alongside Dwight. He may again be starting alongside an All-Star caliber center in 2013-14. Sources tell me that, should they lose David West in free agency, the Indiana Pacers will pursue Earl Clark to play alongside Roy Hibbert. They think his combination of defense, shooting, and versatility would be a major asset in Frank Vogel’s system. It would also help them matchup better with the athleticism of the Miami Heat. West remains Indiana’s free agent priority, but they are somewhat hampered by the salary cap. Clark could likely be had for the mid-level exception, which is much less than David will command. Earl Clark is reportedly scheduled to meet with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday. Follow me on Twitter: @NBAKnez UPDATE: (7/3/13) The Pacers were able to re-sign PF David West to a three-year, $36 million deal. In the process, they had to rescind their qualifying offer to PF Tyler Hansbrough.
